Prologue

“Has my son arrived yet?” Rory asked one of the healers.

Healers were rushing around toward every direction trying to clean up the blood that was all around Rory.

“No sir, he has been informed and is on his way.”

“Leave me, so I can prepare,” Rory demanded with a cough.

“Sir, Lorcan is requesting entrance...” spoke another healer near the door.

“Do not let him in, I must speak with Sorley.”

The door burst open, Sorley came slowly through the doorway sending papers and funeral flowers swirling around the room.

“What happened? How did he get hurt?” Sorley growled at the healers.

Rory smiled, his favorite son had finally arrived.

“Sorley, please calm yourself. Sit with me for a moment.”

Sorley did as he was asked, grabbing a chair covered with funeral flowers.

“Dad is it really that serious? There are funeral flowers all around the village,” Sorley asked desperately.

With a sigh and a smile, Rory answered with his last breath, “Sorley you are my son and heir to lead this village, and all the elven people; I give you my blessing.”

Sorley held his father's hand sobbing quietly as the healers rushed to place more funeral flowers on Rory's still body. Sorley glanced up seeing Lorcan in the doorway. His expression was grim.

“You're supposed to protect him while I was gone, where were you?” Growled Sorley as he stood moving toward Lorcan, slamming the door in his brother's face.
