How do you select the names of your characters?

My characters are named after people I know, from my own little man to my best and closest friends. I use their names and their characteristics to make it easier to write. It's easier to write because I know these people, when I know who they are it makes writing a story like writing those people a letter.

My character Sorley is based off a friend of mine, his name is different but how tall he is to the many tattoos described, only my friends know who this person is in real life and how important this friend is in my life.

My way of showing how wonderful my friends and family are to me, I use them as my characters. Some ask that I don't use their names some ask me to throw them in there.

In my story I do an outline on how the characters are, their traits and what I want their role to be in the story. After doing this I think who in my life is similar to this character? I jump on the closest person to my character then it is like their story comes pouring out making it easier to write when I know who I am writing about.
